Chuck Close
This piece is an interpretation of the artwork done by Chuck Close. He uses patterns and colors to give thes impression of a figure and ultlimately a portait. This portrait of my best friend is a mixture of his techniques the areas all around her face are done in an abstract way and he face was done in a more realistic way, but still keeping to the idea that this piece is meant to be an abstract work of art. The colors of her outfit contrast the background well because the cool colors and the warm colors pop against one another. In addition her more realitic face contrasts with the patterns everywhere else in this piece
Series of Oil Pastels
These three pieces were meant to be based off of the impressionist painter, Monet. I used oil pastels to create the image and then paint thinner to smooth out the strokes and make it seem as if the pastels were paint. The use of color was very important to me and to create a point of emphasis. The sun in the ocean scene, the tulips in the vase scene and the bright rose against the dark background.

Chop
This is a one inch square lino chop. It is the print that the stamp created after it was carved out of the lino. The print is lack paint on printing paper. This piece has the element of contrast in the black and white colors and it also hase positive and negative space the white being the negative space that did not get paint on it and hte black being the positive space because it is where the black paint touched.
Silk Screen
This piece is made from textile paints on bristol paper. There are four layers, purple was first, red was second, orange was third and yellow was last. The Cateye piece was one of five and they were all done with silk screens. The elements in this piece are color and space because the piece has a large amount of negative space to emphasize the pop of color in the glasses. The elements of design in this piece are contrast and emphasis in the use of yellow against purple and there is emphasis on the sunglasses because there is nothing in the background.
Word Art
These two pieces are centered around the idea of words. The first piece is my name in an Italian beach and the second is a kite that it made all of words for the song, "Let's Go Fly a Kite." The name piece is gouache on cold press and the kite is marker, watercolor, and gesso clouds on cold press. The name piece has the elements of line in the crisp lines on the text and the element of color in the variety of vibrant colors on the umbrellas; the elements of design in this piece are balance in the name placement, pattern in the umbrellas, and movement and rhythm in the ocean. The kite piece has the elements of line and texture in the actual words that make up the kite and the implied lines they create and the texture is in the clouds because they are raised off the board. The element of design in the kite piece is emphasis because it is simply the kite on a plain background.
Jesu
This is an image of an orphan from Ecuador named Jesu. This painting was done for the Memory Project and it will be mailed to Ecuador for her to keep forever as a memory from her childhood. It was painted on canvas paper with acrylic. This image has the elements of value through the variations in skin color and the elements of design are emphasis and balance because the piece is a portrait of this young girl's face and it is symmetrically placed in the middle of the paper.
Change of Seasons
These are two paintings done in acrylic on canvas paper. They are off the same scene in two seasons the top is spring and the bottom is winter. These pieces have the elements of line and color, through the collor schemes of cool colors and the sharp lines of the trees. The elements of design that these pieces have are movement and rhythm through the body of water in the images.
